Hammer mill, also called crusher machine, is the most commonly used auxiliary equipment in wood pellet production line or animal feed pellet mill, since not all raw materials have exactly the right size (below 3mm) for pelletizing. Usually it can process various biomass like corn, corn stalk, peanut shell, grass, bean stalk, wood shavings, sawdust, straw, cotton stalks, corn stalks, bagasse, alfalfa, switch grass and peanut shells.
Hammer mill could crush straws into canicaceous materials, which can be processed to feedings and biomass fuel. Compared to traditional fuel, biomass fuels have same volume calorific value and the features of strong combustion, long burning time and quick ignition, which is another ideal replacement of traditional fuels.

The hammer mill achieves material crushing through the synergistic effect of high-speed mechanical impact, collision friction, airflow assistance and dynamic screening cycle. The specific mechanism is as follows:
After the material enters the crushing chamber through the feed port, the high-speed rotating hammer (linear speed can reach 80-100 m/s) directly hits the material, tearing or breaking it into coarse particles. After the material obtains kinetic energy from the hammer, it flies to the inner wall or tooth plate of the crushing chamber at high speed and is further crushed through secondary collision. The fragments continue to splash in the crushing chamber under the action of centrifugal force, and collide and rub against the tooth plate, screen or other fragments many times, gradually refining to the target particle size.
The rotation of the rotor drives the airflow to form vortices, accelerate the movement of the material, enhance the friction between particles and the frequency of secondary impact, and improve the crushing efficiency. The airflow can also take away qualified fine particles in time to avoid excessive accumulation affecting the crushing effect.
The particles move to the screen with the airflow, and the qualified fine materials are discharged through the screen holes (the particle size is controlled by the screen aperture, such as 0.2-6 mm). The coarse particles that do not meet the standard are blocked by the screen and bounce back to the crushing area to continue to be hammered and collided until they meet the particle size requirements.
